Fellowes 35250 Powershred Performance Oil, 12 oz. Bottle w/Extension Nozzle

  • Lubricant keeps your shredder running at peak performance by conditioning the cutters and extending the life of your shredder.
  • Convenient 12-ounce squeeze bottle with extension nozzle to ensure complete coverage
  • For best results, oil shredder each time you empty the wastebasket or a minimum of twice a month.

I recently bought my first paper shreader along with Fellowes Powershred oil. I read the instructions for both, but I still managed to bind up the shreader several times. In each case, the Powershred oil allowed me to remove the blockage and provide adequate lubrication to keep the shreader motor from overheating. I've used the device for two months now and I've learned my paper limitations for the shreader, but it's good to know the Powershred oil is nearby, when needed.

Great oil! I know a lot of people like to make their own oil. I did as well in the past. And yes, your own oil functions just as well for a fraction of the price. But at the end of the day, unless I own a shredding business, this little 12oz bottle will last me years for my home/home office use. So call me lazy, it’s just too easy to spend a few bucks extra to have something specifically designed for shredders and in a specific bottle with a long nose nozzle that fits the opening of my shredders perfectly. I’m glad to pay a little extra for the convenience in this situation.

I rarely used this with my last Fellowes shredder. It lasted over 5 years, but I noticed a decline in performance as time past. Had I know that a cheap bottle of oil would keep it running like new I would have purchased it with the first shredder I owned. I currently use this with Fellowes Powershred 8MC5 8-Sheet Micro-Cut Paper Shredder and it has kept it running like new every step of the way. The stickers and other tacky substances on junk mail tend to adhere to the teeth of the shredder but run this oil through and all the teeth will be looking like brand new. Its a must have for anyone that wants their shredder running at peak performance all the time.

I'm quite pleased with this shredder oil. I have an Amazon Basics shredder. This oil definitely makes the shredder more efficient. By reducing friction on the blades it also helps the shredder run cooler for big jobs, which means you can get more shredding done before the temperature control automatically turns the shredder off to give it time to cool. I get at least 50% more shredding done per job before the temperature control kicks in. I plan to order again when I run out.

A Fellowes shredder seems to know when it has genuine Fellowes oil. Holy hyperbolic ad copy, Batman! I inherited a cast off shredder at work, whose brand didn't even break my consciousness. Eventually it started squeaking, so obviously, it needed some shredder oil. I discovered I had lent out my inherited bottle of shredder oil and it had never been returned (oddly enough, by same person who brought me the shredder, so I'm still ahead), so I grabbed the first lubricant I could lay my hands on - a spray can of penetrating oil. Not a great choice. I guess I can consider myself lucky I still have a working shredder. Not only did it make the squeaking worse immediately, and not better, when I still tried shredding a few dozen sheets, smoke began coming out of the slot! Oops. Quick shutdown and anxious wait if I was going to have to explain the fire drill (I could always have lied, and said I had no IDEA why the shredder caught fire). Next brainstorm: "3-In-One" brand household oil. Seems about the same viscosity and color as shredder oil, at least. Results not as bad as the first time, but the shredder still squeaked. Hmm... OK. Shredder on light duty while I waited for my bottles of genuine Fellowes Shredder Oil to arrive. Now we get to the unbelievable ad-copy-ready commercial hyperbole: When I had squirted in the penetrating oil, the machine started on its own and ran for maybe five seconds. When had I squirted in the household oil, the machine again started on its own, and ran longer this time: maybe 10-15 seconds. Finally, when I gave it the Genuine Fellowes Shredder Oil Accept No Substitutes it had been craving, it started up and ran close to a minute! If the machine were a horse, it would have been rolling around in the grass on its back and whinnying. Oats! Finally, oats! I swear to Y****h I am not making this part up. When the machine finally finished embracing its lost oily brother the squeak was completely gone, and it shredded happily ever after, the end. Epilogue: Don't forget to follow the manufacturer's recommendation to oil every time you change the bag. And oh yes, as you have guessed, this was in fact a Fellowes brand shredder.

If you have a micro cut shredder, this is a must. Use it every time you empty the bin of the shredder and it will give you a much longer life span. If you are the type who doesn't use your shredder all that much, you should still give the blades some oil at least once a month. I used to get no more than a year out of my shredders. I never oiled them. Now that I do, my last micro cut shredder is now 8 years old and still works like the day I got it. And I do give it a workout. I have a larger version at work (same brand) and with regular oiling, it is now 3-1/2 years old with no issues. It still shreds like brand new. It gets used all day, everyday. Make the small investment if you do not want to keep buying new shredders every year.

I use it as recommended to keep the shredder sharp. So far so good, there's no problem. Oil sheets are expensive because the blades cut through the oil sheets, guaranteeing a nicely uniform oiling. I didn't see the point in dripping the oil into the shredder so I created cost effective oil sheets. Hope my idea help you too, click [Helpful] to vote. It would be interesting to see how many Helpful, this idea would get. I put the oil on one (printed) page and put another page on top. Hold the edge of the paper, slip/slide the pages to create oil sheets for feeding into the shredder. It's cost effective oil sheets and it's easy to feed into the shredder to oil the blades. Try the idea, you will like it.

I was having a lot of trouble with my shredder overheating, and the lubricant sheets I purchased at the office supply store just weren't helping. This seemed to be the answer! I applied it liberally before large shredding jobs, and my machine ran longer than it had before. A hint: be careful when cutting the nozzle to open -- I mad the opening too large, and had trouble regulating the amount of oil I added each time.

It does the job (I guess). I've only been using it for a month, and I squirt a little on the sheet I'm passing through when I start my session. I haven't used it every session, only twice, so every other week is about what I expect from a usage standpoint. I had a shredder for many years prior to this, very similar to my previous shredder, and I had never oiled it. The mechanism inside connecting the teeth to the motor finally gave way, which prompted me to purchase the AmazonBasics 6 sheet micro cut shredder. I suppose this oil will help keep the teeth sharp and reduce stress on the motor, we'll see if it was worth it to get the oil... As far as what you get for the price, the bottle is huge. There should be enough oil in here for years to come. I'm expecting great things from this oil, namely prolonging the life of my new shredder.

Update, sometimes reading is fundamental. The device needed 15 minutes to cool down. So I have upgraded my review to 5 stars because I did not fully read the instructions about cool down time. Even though the device was just warm and not hot it still needed time to cool down. That being the case I will purchase again and probably get a cross cut in the future. Nice if it lit a button that said I am cooling down fool haha. Great device, strong shredder. Does as expected and cuts up cards and CD's. Say whaaaat. Needs: Better visual instructions from the device itself when cooling down.
